5 tasks your SME can hand to AI this month

You don't need a big budget or an IT team to start with AI. Here are five everyday jobs Malaysian SMEs are handing over right now, and how to start each one.

Most SME owners we meet are curious about AI but unsure where to begin. The good news: the best first projects are boring. They're the repetitive jobs that eat an hour here and an hour there, every single day.

Here are five you can start with this month.

1. Answering the same customer questions

Look at your WhatsApp or Facebook inbox. How many messages ask about prices, opening hours, delivery areas or stock? An AI assistant trained on your own product list and FAQs can answer those in seconds, in English, Bahasa Malaysia or Chinese, and pass anything unusual to a person.

Start here: write down the 20 questions customers ask most, with your best answers. That list becomes the assistant's training material.

2. Writing social media posts

AI is very good at first drafts. Give it your past posts, your products and your promotions for the month, and it will draft captions in your brand voice. You stay the editor: keep what works, fix what doesn't, then schedule.

Start here: pick one platform and one week. Compare the time it takes with and without AI.

3. Typing data from invoices and receipts

If someone on your team copies supplier invoices into a spreadsheet or accounting software, AI can read those documents, including photos and scans, and fill in the fields for them to check.

4. Following up with quiet customers

Your best source of new sales is often people who already bought from you. AI can spot customers who haven't ordered in a while and draft a personal message or offer for each one.

5. Writing weekly reports

Sales, enquiries, ad spend. AI can pull the numbers together and write a short summary in plain language, so you spend Monday morning deciding, not compiling.

Where to begin

Choose the one task that annoys you most. Start small, measure the hours saved, then add the next one. That's exactly how we run our free AI readiness audit: find the first win, prove it, then grow.
